Situated on a peninsula just south of Dangriga, Placencia is a nature lover's paradise. Whale sharks are common in May and June during the snapper spawning season. Hard corals and gorgonians provide an underwater obstacle course for the various types of rays to soar through. On the peninsula, visitors can take a boat tour down the Monkey River to see howler monkeys. Journeys into the jungle or visiting the ancient Mayan ruins will fill your photo albums and give you many stories to tell your family and friends back home.
