The Junk

About The Junk

The Junk is a 108ft long scuba diving yacht. She was built in Malaysia in 1962 and later moved to Thailand. More importantly, she became a star in the James Bond 007 movie: The man with the golden gun. In 1997 they remodeled her into a diving liveaboard vessel. So, she only has 6 guest rooms, but can board 18 divers comfortably. She has 2 quad cabins, 2 triple cabins and 2 private twin/double cabins. The Junk Diving

You can choose from several scuba diving itineraries. So, you can go on a 2, 4 or 6-night trips to such places as the Similan and Surin Islands, the Southern Explorer trip, or the Best of Thailand trip. 2 rib tenders (dhoni) transport divers to and from The Junk. More importantly, expect to see whale sharks, mantas leopard sharks, black tips and more. Expect to see gray sharks, eagle rays, and shovel nose rays, as well as ribbon eels, pipefish, Andaman sweetlips, rabbitfish, and cowrie shells. Jacque Cousteau filmed the mantas and whale sharks that made Richelieu Rock world famous. Also, look out for blue spotted rays, leopard sharks, tiger tail seahorses, ghost pipefish and coronet fish. Oh, tuna, barracuda and napoleon fish too. In addition, the central dive sites have lots of caves, caverns and chimneys to explore. Southern dive sites also have swim throughs, drop offs, and pinnacles to explore.

Attractions and Activities

The chefs cook buffet style including Western favorites, local Thai cuisine and (vegetarian dishes if requested). Plan on a light breakfast, full breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner between dives. Cakes, fruits and other snacks are available all day. Beer and wine are also available. So, the outdoor dining area is covered and provides both shade and a spectacular view of the sea. The ship has a camera station and nitrox is available. Finally, snorkeling, kayaking, freediving, and watching movies are all popular pastime activities. This historical teak wooden ship is also in the same fleet as the Phinisi.
