The Sandpiper is a scuba diving resort in historic Holetown, Barbados. It was built in 1970 and has been family operated ever since. Specialty courses include night diver, underwater photographer, wreck diver, and enriched air diver. They also offer quality dive gear rentals. More importantly, some of the dive sites they frequently visit include Silver Banks, Shark’s Bank, Bright Ledge, Spawnee, and the easy-going wreck Pamir. Farther south from The Sandpiper, they go to Dottins, Stavronikita, and Carlisle Bay. Carlisle Bay is where you’ll find a nice collection of five wrecks.

You may see tons of turtles, several species of sharks, and assorted fish. Keep an eye out for octopus, seahorses, sponges, lobster and conchs. On the surface you may see pilot whales, and pods of dolphins.

Attractions and Activities

The restaurant at The Sandpiper offers a free breakfast. The executive chef and his team change their dinner menu five times a week. They offer Caribbean flair and a fusion of European and Asian techniques and ingredients. On Wednesday night they have west indies specialties and an international buffet. Sunday is BBQ night and steel drum music. Harold’s Bar has alfresco lunches, and delicious concoctions that help you decompress and unwind. So, the resort has a spa and wellness center. Stuart Coves Dive Bahamas is the house recommended scuba diving center. They have been in business over 30 years and are known for their pink dive shirts and their world class shark dives. Stewart Cove’s picks you up from the resort and returns you after an exciting day of diving. They typically do 2 am morning dives. From Breezes Resort & Spa you could visit 36 dive sites just on the west side of the island.

Moreover, while staying at Breezes Resort & Spa, you may see walls, wrecks, and/or reefs. Some of the dive sites include Sand Chute, the James Bond Wreck, Bahama Mama, Elkhorn Gardens and Treasures Wreck. The shark dives are held either at Shark Wall and the Arena, or Shark Wall North and the Runway. Pro Dive International is the onsite scuba diving center. They are located right next to the jetty. Moreover, they teach beginning divers, advanced divers, and a host of specialty classes. They also offer free Nitrox to those enriched air certified. Above all, they have a selection of dive equipment for rent. Furthermore, they have a fleet of dive boats. Nearby dive sites include San Francisco Reef, and Palancar Garden.

So, the majority of dives near Occidental Grand Cozumel are drift dives. You merely descend underwater using your BC (buoyancy compensator). Next, drift along the reef. When finished drifting, use your BC to ascend. So, the boats follow the bubbles. They pick divers up once they surface. There are over 250 species of fish, and turtles, nurse sharks, stingrays to see. We think Palancar Reef should be on every diver’s bucket list.

Occidental Grand Cozumel is an all-inclusive resort. Scuba diving is extra. They have 7 restaurants and 5 bars. Restaurants include La Posada, Beach Club, Sonora, Los Olivos, La Piazza, and Coral. At Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino the dive center uses a fleet of boats to take to specific dive sites. You can also purchase extra boat charters. However, you have unlimited shore diving on the House Reef. And that includes shore night dives too. The dive shop pier has easy access to the ocean. The largest boat, “Big Buddy”, can carry up to 40 divers and travels routinely to Washington Slagbaai National Park. Smaller boats hold 16 divers and can zip over to Klein Bonaire in minutes. Beqa Lagoon Resort Diving

The scuba diving resort operates a Shark Dive and Big Fish Encounter. So you can dive with Tiger Sharks, Bull Sharks and large fish species such as Grouper and Giant Trevally. And if all this doesn’t make Beqa Lagoon Resort the home of the “World’s Greatest Shark Dive”, then at least it is one of the top places in the world you have to dive.

We do have to inform you that right off shore you can dive a coral reef. Night dives are also available at the resort. From the dive boats you have access to 100 other dive sites including: Carpet Cove and a trawler wreck. John’s Tunnel is a 30ft long swim though filled with soft corals. Blue Wall goes down 150ft and is a great hang out for eagle rays and manta rays. Many other dive sites contain giant coral heads, coral heads in rows, and soft coral havens with some 460 species of fish. For that matter, even on the way out to the dive sites you may see a whale or pod of dolphins. Beqa Lagoon Resort has their own scuba dive center with five boats. They also have nitrox on site.

Anthony’s Key Resort

There are 56 charming wooden cabanas on the hillside and near the water’s edge at Anthony’s Key Resort. The entire scuba diving resort holds 120 guests. Therefore, it is the perfect place for scuba diving for individual and family vacations. So, the resort is located towards the western end of the island of Roatan, which is part of Honduras. So, first off, Anthony’s Key Resort has a literal fleet of Pro 42 and Pro 48 scuba diving boats that go out daily to 35 dive sites. More importantly, diving around Anthony’s Key Resort includes one of the largest wrecks in the Caribbean; the Odyssey. Even though the pro 42 can hold up to 15 divers, most trips go out scheduled with 12-14 divers. Anthony’s dive boats leave in the morning, mid-morning and early afternoon. Returning from the dive boats, it’s time to visit the AKR Dive Shop. As a result, you are now ready to shore dive and visit the local reef life as well as dive the El Aguila wreck.
