Shipwrecks can create a new ecosystem for marine life, and they allow divers to explore historic sites. Maduro Dive is a wholesale dive travel company that helps divers plan adventure trips in 79 destinations. Here’s information about unique dive trips that explore historical shipwrecks:
Micronesia
Micronesia provides a travel destination for shipwreck-based dive trips, offering a challenge for experienced divers. This destination, especially Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon, hosts a series of World War II shipwrecks consisting of Japan’s Imperial 4th Fleet. The shipwrecks allow divers to see both the soft corals growing on the outside of the ship and the artifacts remaining inside.
The Palau Aggressor II liveaboard provides a trip for advanced divers; the waters have faster currents that require additional skills. Divers on our Maduro Dive staff can help you find liveaboards and resorts that are appropriate for your level of dive training, including challenging sites. This liveaboard allows you to dive the WW II wreck Iro Maru.
A stay at the Palau Royal Resort also offers opportunities for wreck diving, and it allows you to explore different types of ships. Diving options include the Amatsu Maru, the largest shipwreck; Helmet Wreck, the cargo steamer; and Buoy 6, the submarine chaser. Other dive sites include the German Channel, where you are able to see large manta rays, and Blue Corner, which provides gray sharks and hammerhead sharks.
Philippines
Depending on the season you are traveling in, liveaboards in the Philippines provide multiple opportunities for wreck dives. Maduro Dive can review itineraries with you to help you choose a season with your preferred wreck dives. The Philippines Agressor II travels to the Tubbataha Reefs between March and June, allowing advanced divers to dive multiple wrecks, including the Deslan Wreck. Between January and March, the itinerary on the Atlantis Azores includes diving in Coron. This area features protected waters that have 24 Japanese shipwrecks from World War II.
Dive sites near the Atlantis Resort Puerto Galera include the Sabang Wreck. This site hosts a variety of marine life, including seasonal thresher and whale sharks, seahorsesand frog fish. Divers of all skill levels have ideal opportunities for underwater exploration and photography. Our website allows you to filter locations according to your preferred dive activities, including types of marine life to encounter.
